If you look at any diet the basis you lose weight is through taking in less calories than you expend. Any nutritionist and doctor will tell you this. The difficulty arises when you try to measure how many calories you expend. Forget the treadmill that tells you how many calories you burned during your 30 minute session. That’s based on an average and has nothing to do with your own calorific expenditure. That will vary depending on many factors. So your reaction to a “diet” may be very different to someone else. The key is to get your body burning more calories on a day to day basis.

Research shows that a combination of high intensity anaerobic and aerobic exercise will increase not only the amount of calories burnt during the session but also increases the level of Excess Post Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) for as much as 48 hours post exercise. That means your body is burning extra calories even when you’ve left the studio and are sat watching TV!
